Dogs, with their soulful eyes and big wet noses, have an amazing ability to put a wide smile on our faces. Dogs and their owners form a special relationship filled with love, affection and unadulterated admiration that just doesn't happen anywhere else. It may or may not come as a surprise to you, that dog clothes and accessories can really add something fun, whimsical and social to enhance that unique bond between animal and human. Dogs add so much to our days, dog outfits just add another aspect, filled with laughter, comfort and care for our friends. Products for dogs can be humorous, cute, a sign of love, protective, and sometimes necessary.
Some dog apparel is just plain adorable. Who can forget Bruiser's little pink hat in Legally Blonde or the way the puppies personalities are defined in Air Buddies by their accessories? Have you ever peeked into someone's front pack expecting to see a baby and be tickled instead by the bonneted whiskers of a friendly toy terrier? Or have you seen a waddling chestnut colored dachshund on Halloween surrounded by two buns and topped with catsup? Life can be hard, part of the reason why we have pets. What a unique chance to throw traditional expectations to the wind, and just have fun, play, and make people laugh with you and your pet.
Dog outfits can also let people know you are serious about your pooch. It's a sign of the high regard you have for your dog. No one is going to dismiss the obviously doted on girl puppy with a little lavender outfit and bow, or the masculine boxer with the camouflage tee shirt or bandana. It shows people you are thinking of your dog, and how much they mean to you. It can make people see your dog in a different light, not just as an animal, but as a special part of your family with personality and a place where they belong.
How To Properly Measure Your Dog

Oh yeah! I love dog outfits and dressing my pup. I live in Boston, and so in that gruesome winter I have to clothes her. Wouldn’t want her to go freezing up now!
I found your post very interesting, particularly your mention of the masculine boxer in a camo tshirt.
Most people here in the UK do not dress their dogs, but we are beginning to follow the U.S. – no change there then!
I think it is particularly important to dress the small breeds for health reasons, but all dogs look lovely. I have a standard poodle called Harvey and he will not leave the house if it is raining – big baby!
He has now got a waterproof dog coat, which I have to add, was difficult to find here in England.
I live in Canada and it is also cold here most of the year, so it is very important and necessary to properly clothe your dog as you would yourself! As you pointed out, it really adds much excitement and joy to myself and our family, and in return, our dog is much happier and friendlier too – fun and very practical indeed!
I think playing dress up with pups is cute! Sometimes they actually need it. Especially if you live in a very harsh (cold) climate during the winter months.
We have just been through the worst winter in a generation and luckily a close friend gave me a good warm coat for my dog.
I say luckily because I was not convinced my dog would willingly wear anything on his back, and I was not prepared for the bad weather.
How wrong can you get! Jazz not only loved his coat – he wouldn’t go out without it!
I am now looking for a waterproof coat that looks just right.
dressing up your dog/pet is so much fun. Your right, it shows how committed you are to taking care of your pet. i think some clothing is too expensive and a little crazy but most people are just having fun.
I think a lot of people pay more attention to the “fun” factor than the practicality of dog clothes. For instance, I’ve known people who don’t even consider their dogs might be cold in the winter (even if they’re dogs with a hair coat, for example) – they just think dogs are always warm, for some reason.
It’s also practical for the owner too, of course. I’m doing a lot less cleaning, ever since i got my dogs waterproof coats
Highly recommended

Funny to come across this site. My wife is obsessed with dressing up our little Jack Russel, in my opinion Jack Russels in drag do not suite but anyhoo. We are expecting our first and she is already planning on putting them in separate outfits. All she needs is a site that sells matching dog and infant outfits.
Great information, but do you know where I can get a dog coat or wrap that you can put on your dog when he has been out and he is wet to stop him making a mess inside. I think they fit them like a baby suit and cover most of their body. I have no idea what they are called?
Thanks
Purchasing dog clothes cannot only be fun, but in many cases necessary. For instance, certain breeds such as the Chihuahua have difficuties in extreme cold weather conditions and need protection. Thus, dog clothes can help keep these small dog warm during the winter months. Hairless breeds need protection from the cold as well, however, they also need protection from the sun during the summer time. Thus, dog clothes can provide protection from strong UV rays.
